In a heavy truck, the differential and final drive inside the rear axle are what turn gearbox output into usable torque at the wheels – while still allowing the left and right wheels to rotate at different speeds in corners. When a differential starts to whine, overheat or develop excessive backlash, the whole vehicle can be taken off the road until the axle is repaired or replaced.
This category brings together used OEM truck differentials and final drive axles removed from late-model European HGVs and listed with clear photos, OEM references and honest condition notes. It is part of our main Transmission & Drivetrain section alongside Driveshafts, Clutches and Pressure Plates.
Our stock in this category changes as we dismantle more donor trucks, but typical items listed under Differentials include:
Each listing shows the actual differential or axle you will receive, with close-up photos of ratio stamps, casting numbers, flanges and mounting points so you can compare them against your existing unit.
Most of the differentials in this section come from mainstream European heavy trucks such as Volvo FH/FM, MAN TGX/TGS, DAF XF/XG, Scania R/S and Mercedes-Benz Actros & Arocs. These are modern Euro 5–Euro 6 vehicles sourced in the UK, so you are buying hardware designed for current fleet trucks rather than obsolete models.
Where possible we record:
This information makes it easier for workshops and fleet operators to match the correct differential to long-haul tractor units, construction tippers, drawbar combinations or specialist vehicles. If you need to see the trucks these parts came from, visit our Trucks We Dismantle page.
All differentials are removed in-house at VRA Truckparts as part of a controlled dismantling process described in detail on our Dismantling & Quality Process page. We specialise in late-model trucks that are usually written off for cab or body damage rather than catastrophic driveline failure.
Before a differential is listed for sale, our team:
Only units that pass these basic checks are cleaned, tagged and entered into stock. Suspect axles and differentials are stripped for cores rather than sold as ready-to-fit units, in line with our Core Units & Surcharge policy.
Choosing the correct differential is critical: the wrong ratio or axle design can affect engine RPM, fuel consumption and driveline life. To help you avoid mistakes, we recommend following the steps in How to Find the Right Part and Compatibility & VIN Policy.
When you contact us, please have the following ready:
With this information we can cross-check the differential against our stock list, suggest suitable alternatives in the Transmission & Drivetrain section, or point you towards matching Driveshafts and related components.
Most mechanical differentials do not require programming themselves, but on modern trucks the axle ratio and configuration may be stored in the ECU so that ABS, cruise control and gearbox control units read road speed correctly. Your workshop should follow the guidance in our Fitting & Programming Advice and always check for manufacturer procedures on setting up or adapting replacement axles and differentials.
For more detail on how we describe condition, what is covered and what is not, please review Warranty & Part Condition and Returns & Refunds before ordering.
Differential and axle assemblies are heavy items, so each unit is securely strapped to a pallet or placed in a sturdy crate before dispatch. We offer tracked delivery across the UK and EU – full details, transit times and price information are available on our Delivery & Shipping page.
If a differential is sold with a core surcharge, the terms for returning your old unit and receiving core credit are explained under Core Units & Surcharge. For general information on how to place an order, payment options and VAT, please see How to Order and Payment & VAT.
By combining carefully selected donor trucks, a structured dismantling and testing process and clear information about each axle, VRA Truckparts makes it easier to source the right used OEM differential – keeping your trucks earning and your fleet running cost-effectively.
