Used truck axles – front steering, rear drive, tag & midlift axles

Axles are some of the most important structural components on a heavy truck. They support vehicle weight, locate the wheels and transfer braking and drive forces between the road and the chassis. On modern European HGVs you will find a mix of front steering axles, rear drive axles, tag axles and midlift axles, depending on whether the truck is a 4x2, 6x2, 6x4, 8x2 or other configuration.

In this category we offer used OEM complete truck axles and axle housings removed from complete donor vehicles. Typical examples include front steering axles for MAN TGX/TGS and DAF XF/CF tractors, rear drive axles with different ratios for Volvo FH/FM and Mercedes-Benz Actros, as well as tag and midlift axles for multi-axle chassis.

What you will find in the Axles category

Stock in the Axles category changes as new donor trucks arrive, but it typically includes:

  • front steering axles complete with hubs and brake mounting points for European 4x2 and 6x2 tractors and rigids;
  • rear drive axles with differential, axle housing and hub assemblies, often supplied complete “from hub to hub”;
  • tag and midlift axles used on 6x2 and 8x2 configurations, including steered and non-steered tag axles;
  • single axles and bogie sets for double-drive tractor and rigid applications;
  • axle housings and beams where the bare housing or beam is supplied without hubs or brakes;
  • selected axle-related components supplied together with the main axle, such as mounting brackets, reaction arm brackets or ABS sensor housings shown in the photos.

Each listing includes clear photos, OE/OEM part numbers where available and donor vehicle details so you can compare track width, mounting points, brake type and differential ratio with the axle fitted to your own truck.

Truck brands & typical applications

Most axles in this category are taken from mainstream European heavy trucks, including:

  • DAF XF and CF long-haul and distribution tractors and rigids;
  • MAN TGS and TGX tractors and chassis in 4x2, 6x2, 6x4 and 8x2 configurations;
  • Mercedes-Benz Actros, Antos and Arocs with a range of axle loads and suspension types;
  • Volvo FH and FM long-distance and regional haulage vehicles;
  • other brands such as Scania, Iveco and Renault Trucks when suitable donor vehicles are available.

Because these are genuine OEM components removed from complete trucks, each axle is normally matched to a specific axle load rating, suspension type, brake system and differential ratio.

Why truck axles matter

Choosing the correct axle is essential for:

  • load capacity and durability – the axle must be rated for the intended gross weight and application (long-haul, construction, distribution, etc.);
  • handling and stability – correct geometry helps the truck steer predictably and track straight under braking and acceleration;
  • tyre wear and braking performance – properly aligned axles support even tyre contact and balanced braking between axles;
  • uptime and running costs – a used OEM axle can restore a damaged truck quickly and cost-effectively compared with new dealer parts.

Typical reasons to replace a truck axle

Common reasons to order parts from the Axles category include:

  • accident damage such as bent axle beams, twisted housings or broken mounting points after a collision or kerb strike;
  • severe corrosion on axle housings and brackets in high-salt environments;
  • internal differential failure where a complete replacement axle is more economical than a full rebuild;
  • upgrading or changing axle ratio to better suit the truck’s operating profile and improve fuel economy;
  • replacing a non-original or incorrect axle with the correct OEM axle assembly specified for your truck brand and chassis code.

How to choose the correct truck axle

To minimise fitting issues and ensure the right performance, please check the following details before ordering:

  • truck brand, model and chassis type – for example DAF XF106, MAN TGX Euro 6, Mercedes Actros MP4, Volvo FH4;
  • axle position and function – front steering axle, rear drive axle, tag axle or midlift axle;
  • axle load rating – expressed in tonnes per axle on the manufacturer plate or vehicle documentation;
  • suspension type – air suspension, leaf springs or mixed (leaf + air) systems;
  • brake type – disc vs drum brakes, brake chamber mounting pattern and hub/disc configuration;
  • differential ratio and locking features on drive axles, matched to your existing specification;
  • OEM part numbers and axle identification codes on the axle tag or housing, matched against the references shown in the product description.

If you are unsure, you can contact us with your VIN or registration number and clear photos of your existing axle, identification plate and suspension/brake layout. Our team can help you confirm compatibility before you place an order. For general guidance, see How to Find the Right Part and Compatibility & VIN Policy.

Used OEM axles from dismantled trucks

VRA Truckparts specialises in used OEM truck parts sourced from carefully selected donor vehicles. Trucks are inspected and documented before dismantling so that chassis, suspension and driveline components can be assessed. During dismantling, our technicians remove axles, check housings, flanges and brackets for visible damage and reject units that do not meet our standards. For more details on our process, please see Our Dismantling & Quality Process and Trucks We Dismantle.

Usable axles are drained, cleaned externally, labelled with OEM references where available and stored under cover in our yard and warehouse ready for dispatch.
