Used truck EGR coolers & exhaust gas recirculation modules

EGR coolers (exhaust gas recirculation coolers) are heat exchangers that cool hot exhaust gases before they are routed back into the engine’s intake. By passing exhaust through a coolant-filled core, the cooler lowers gas temperature and helps reduce combustion temperatures and NOx emissions on modern diesel engines. In this category we list used OEM truck EGR coolers and EGR modules removed from late-model European lorries.

Our focus is on Euro 5 and Euro 6 trucks widely used in UK and EU fleets, including DAF XF/CF, MAN TGX/TGS, Volvo FH/FM, Mercedes-Benz Actros/Atego and Scania R/S where EGR systems are an important part of the overall emissions package alongside SCR and DPF.

What you will find in the EGR Coolers category

Stock in the EGR Coolers category changes as we dismantle more vehicles, but typically includes:

  • complete EGR coolers with integrated heat exchanger core and coolant connections;
  • combined EGR cooler & valve modules where the cooler, valve and bypass are built into one housing;
  • EGR cooler assemblies with brackets and mounting hardware specific to each engine family;
  • pipes and short link sections that connect the cooler to the exhaust manifold and intake side;
  • units from OEM suppliers used by DAF, MAN, Volvo, Mercedes and Scania on Euro 5–6 engines.

Each product listing shows genuine OE numbers where available, donor truck details and clear photos of the exact EGR cooler in stock so you can compare it with the unit on your vehicle.

How EGR coolers work in diesel exhaust & emissions systems

In an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system, a portion of exhaust gas is diverted from the exhaust manifold, passed through the EGR cooler and then routed via the EGR valve into the intake manifold. Cooling this exhaust gas before it mixes with fresh air reduces peak combustion temperature and helps control NOx emissions, which is essential for meeting Euro 5 and Euro 6 emissions standards on heavy-duty trucks.

Together with the EGR valve, intake manifold and aftertreatment system (DOC/DPF/SCR), the EGR cooler plays a key role in balancing emissions, fuel economy and engine durability. A correctly functioning cooler helps protect the engine from excessive temperatures and can reduce stress on valves, pistons and turbochargers.

Typical symptoms of EGR cooler problems

Because the EGR cooler carries both hot exhaust and engine coolant, a failing unit can cause a range of symptoms, for example:

  • white smoke or steam from the exhaust when coolant leaks internally into the exhaust gas path;
  • unexplained coolant loss without obvious external leaks;
  • overheating or fluctuating engine temperature under load;
  • reduced performance, rough running or derate when the engine detects an EGR system fault;
  • warning lights or fault codes related to the EGR or emissions system.

Diagnosis should always be carried out by a professional workshop with appropriate tools. Replacing a faulty cooler with a correct OEM unit is often an important step in restoring emissions system performance and preventing more serious engine damage.

Truck brands & typical applications

Most EGR coolers we stock come from mainstream European heavy trucks, including:

  • DAF XF and CF series Euro 5–6 tractors and rigids;
  • MAN TGX and TGS Euro 5–6 trucks with D20/D26 engines;
  • Volvo FH and FM Euro 5–6 models;
  • Mercedes-Benz Actros and Atego Euro 5–6;
  • selected Scania R/S series and other makes where available.

As our inventory is based on complete donor vehicles, each cooler can be tied back to a specific truck model, year and engine type, which makes compatibility checking much easier.

How to choose the correct EGR cooler

To avoid ordering the wrong EGR cooler or module for your truck, please check:

  • OEM part number on the old cooler or on your parts system (both truck OE and supplier numbers where possible);
  • engine type and code (for example DAF MX-11 / MX-13, MAN D20/D26, Volvo D11/D13, Mercedes OM471/OM473 and so on);
  • emissions standard – Euro 5 or Euro 6, as cooler design and connections can differ;
  • orientation & mounting – bracket style, bolt pattern and position on the engine;
  • coolant and exhaust connections – number and size of ports, flange shapes and whether the valve is integrated or separate;
  • any additional sensors, bypass flaps or actuators fitted to the cooler assembly.

If you are unsure which cooler you need, you can contact us with your VIN or registration number and clear photos of your existing EGR cooler and its labels. Our team can help you cross-check compatibility before you order. For general guidance, see How to Find the Right Part and Compatibility & VIN Policy.

Tested used OEM EGR coolers from dismantled trucks

Where possible, we run and check donor vehicles before dismantling to confirm that the engine and emissions systems operate correctly and that there are no obvious coolant or exhaust leaks. During removal, our technicians visually inspect each EGR cooler for external cracks, heavy corrosion, damaged flanges and blocked cores. Units that do not meet our standards are rejected; only usable OEM coolers are cleaned, labelled and stored under cover in our warehouse.

Because we specialise in used OEM truck parts, you benefit from components that are designed specifically for heavy-duty engines and emissions systems, with the correct flow paths, mounting points and durability for commercial use.
