Used truck ECUs, computers & cruise control units

Electronic control units (ECUs) are at the heart of every modern heavy truck. Engine computers, aftertreatment controllers, brake and suspension ECUs and cruise control modules all work together to manage performance, safety and emissions on 24V European HGVs. When one of these modules fails, the truck can quickly develop fault codes, limp-home modes or complete loss of function.

In this category we offer used OEM truck ECUs, computers and cruise control units removed from complete donor vehicles. Typical examples include engine and aftertreatment control modules, EBS and brake ECUs, ECAS suspension controllers, ACC/AEBS radar units and dedicated cruise control computers for DAF XF/CF, MAN TGS/TGX, Volvo FH/FM, Mercedes-Benz Actros and other European lorry brands.

What you will find in the Computers & Cruise Controls category

Stock in the Computers & Cruise Controls category changes as new donor trucks arrive, but it typically includes:

  • engine ECUs / ECMs that manage fuel injection, boost pressure and engine protection functions;
  • aftertreatment and DEF/AdBlue control units used for SCR, DPF and emission management;
  • brake and stability ECUs (EBS, ABS, ESP) with connections for wheel speed sensors and brake modulators;
  • ECAS suspension controllers for air-suspended drive, tag and midlift axles;
  • cruise control, ACC and AEBS modules including radar-based distance control units and their controllers;
  • cab, body and central gateway modules that coordinate lighting, cab functions and network communication on the truck;
  • selected matching brackets, housings or wiring pigtails supplied together with the ECU where shown in the photos.

Each listing includes clear photos, OE/OEM part numbers where available and donor vehicle details so you can compare connectors, mounting points and software/ hardware numbers with the unit fitted to your own truck.

Truck brands & typical applications

Most ECUs and computers in this category are taken from mainstream European heavy trucks, including:

  • DAF XF and CF tractors and rigids with Euro 5 and Euro 6 engines;
  • MAN TGS and TGX long-haul, distribution and construction trucks;
  • Mercedes-Benz Actros, Antos and Arocs in a range of chassis and axle configurations;
  • Volvo FH and FM long-distance and regional haulage vehicles;
  • other brands such as Scania, Iveco and Renault Trucks when suitable donor vehicles are available.

Because these are genuine OEM components removed from complete trucks, each module is normally matched to a specific engine family, emissions level, wiring layout and vehicle network type.

Why ECUs and computers matter on heavy trucks

Correctly functioning ECUs are essential for:

  • reliable engine and driveline performance – fuel efficiency, torque and power delivery all depend on accurate electronic control;
  • safety systems – braking, stability control, adaptive cruise and collision warning rely on multiple ECUs working together on the CAN network;
  • emissions compliance – SCR, DPF regeneration and EGR systems are all monitored and controlled electronically;
  • minimising downtime – replacing a failed ECU with the correct OEM module can get a parked truck back on the road quickly and cost-effectively.

Typical reasons to replace a truck ECU or control unit

Common reasons to order parts from this category include:

  • internal electronic failure resulting in fault codes, loss of communication or no-start conditions;
  • water ingress or corrosion inside the ECU housing or connector area;
  • impact or fire damage to the original module and its mounting brackets;
  • retrofitting or upgrading cruise control, ACC/AEBS or other functions using a specification-correct ECU;
  • replacing a non-original or incorrectly coded unit with the proper OEM module for your truck’s VIN and configuration.

How to choose the correct ECU or control module

To minimise fitting and coding issues, please check the following details before ordering:

  • truck brand, model and Euro class – for example DAF XF106, MAN TGX Euro 6, Mercedes Actros MP4, Volvo FH4;
  • ECU function – engine, aftertreatment, brake, suspension, body, cruise control, ACC/AEBS or other system;
  • OE/OEM part numbers and software/hardware numbers printed on the unit label or casting;
  • connector type and pin count – compare plug shape, keying and number of connections with your existing module;
  • mounting position and bracket layout on the chassis or cab;
  • VIN and configuration data – some ECUs may require coding or programming to your vehicle after installation.

If you are unsure, you can contact us with your VIN or registration number and clear photos of the existing ECU label and mounting area. For general guidance, see How to Find the Right Part, Compatibility & VIN Policy and Fitting, Coding & Programming Advice.

Used OEM ECUs from dismantled trucks

VRA Truckparts specialises in used OEM truck parts sourced from carefully selected donor vehicles. Trucks are inspected and documented before dismantling so that engines, driveline, chassis and electronic systems can be assessed. During dismantling, our technicians remove ECUs and control modules, check housings and connectors for visible damage, and reject units that do not meet our standards.

Usable modules are cleaned externally, labelled with OEM references where available and stored under cover in our warehouse ready for dispatch.
