Used truck parking brake valves & handbrake levers

Parking brakes are critical for keeping a heavy truck safely parked, on slopes, at loading bays and during coupling or uncoupling operations. On modern European lorries the parking brake is usually applied via a cab-mounted handbrake valve that controls spring brake chambers on the axles. By operating this valve, the driver applies or releases powerful spring-applied brakes that hold the vehicle securely when the service brakes are not in use.

This category lists used OEM truck parking brake valves and handbrake levers removed from late-model DAF, Mercedes and other European trucks. Typical parts include cab-mounted hand brake valve levers with integrated control valves from Knorr-Bremse and other OEM suppliers, complete with original part numbers and clear photos.

What you will find in the Parking Brakes category

Stock in the Parking Brakes category will change as we dismantle more vehicles, but it typically includes:

  • cab-mounted handbrake valve assemblies with lever and integrated parking brake valve;
  • parking brake control valves for DAF XF / CF, Mercedes Actros and other popular trucks;
  • park brake control units designed to work with spring brake chambers on the drive axles;
  • valves supplied by OEM manufacturers such as Knorr-Bremse for European heavy-duty platforms;
  • other related components used to operate the mechanical parking brake on tractors and rigids.

Each part listing includes clear photos and OEM numbers so you can compare the handbrake lever shape, mounting points, ports and connectors with the unit fitted in your cab.

How the truck parking brake system works

On most modern trucks the parking brake is part of the spring brake system. When the driver operates the handbrake lever, the parking brake valve controls air pressure to the spring brake chambers. Releasing air allows internal springs to apply the brakes mechanically, locking the wheels; supplying air releases the springs and lets the vehicle roll when the service brake pedal is used as normal.

The parking brake is designed to hold the vehicle even if air pressure is lost, which is why it is so important to use the correct OEM valve matched to the truck’s braking system and control logic. Using the right valve helps maintain proper operation of anti-compound functions and other safety features built into modern brake systems.

Truck brands & typical applications

Most parking brake valves and handbrake levers in this category come from mainstream European trucks such as: DAF CF/XF, Mercedes-Benz Actros / Arocs, Volvo FH/FM, MAN TGX/TGS, Scania and similar lorries. We focus on late Euro 5 and Euro 6 donor vehicles, so the parts are well suited to modern fleets in the UK and across Europe.

Typical use cases for parts in this category include:

  • replacing a worn or leaking handbrake valve that no longer holds pressure correctly;
  • fixing cab controls that feel stiff, loose or do not positively lock in the park position;
  • resolving parking brake warning lights or fault codes related to the park brake valve;
  • swapping like-for-like OEM parts instead of using universal or modified valves.

How to choose the correct parking brake valve or lever

To ensure you order the correct valve for your truck, always check:

  • OEM part number printed or cast on the original parking brake valve body;
  • truck brand and model (for example DAF XF/CF Euro 6, Mercedes Actros MP4);
  • cab configuration and console layout – left-hand/right-hand drive, seat and dashboard type, as these affect lever style and mounting;
  • number and orientation of ports on the valve, plus thread sizes;
  • any additional markings or supplier codes from Knorr-Bremse or other OEM manufacturers.

If you are unsure, you can contact us with your VIN or registration number and photos of the existing handbrake valve and cab console. Our team will help you cross-check compatibility and select a part from our stock. For more general guidance, please see How to Find the Right Part and Compatibility & VIN Policy.

Tested used OEM parking brake components

Before dismantling, we aim to run and check the braking and parking systems on each donor vehicle where possible. During removal, our technicians inspect the handbrake valve and lever for obvious damage, broken mounts, cracked housings and heavily worn mechanisms. Only components that meet our standards for used parts are cleaned, labelled and stored indoors ready for dispatch.

Because we specialise in genuine OEM parts removed from complete trucks, you benefit from:

  • correct calibration and port configuration for your specific brake system;
  • factory-quality fitment in the cab console and linkage;
  • reliable operation using the same components specified by the vehicle manufacturer.
