Used truck brake chambers & spring brake actuators

Brake chambers are a key part of any heavy truck’s air brake system. They convert air pressure into mechanical force at the wheel end, operating the brake calipers or drum brake linkage so that the lorry can slow down and stop safely under load. On many modern European trucks the rear axles use combined spring brake actuators which provide both service braking and powerful mechanical parking brake force in one unit.

In this category you will find used OEM truck brake chambers and spring brake actuators removed from late-model European vehicles. Current examples include Knorr-Bremse Type 24 disc brake chambers for MAN TGS/TGX Euro 6 and matching spring brake chambers supplied with genuine part numbers and clear photos of the actual units in stock.

What you will find in the Brake Chambers category

Stock in the Brake Chambers category changes as we dismantle more trucks, but typically includes:

  • service brake chambers for disc and drum brakes on front and rear axles;
  • spring brake chambers (combined service + parking brake actuators) for drive and tag axles;
  • disc brake chambers in common sizes such as Type 20, Type 22 and Type 24 with specified stroke;
  • chambers with specific pushrod lengths, port threads and clamp configurations for MAN, DAF, Volvo, Mercedes and other brands;
  • associated air brake components that are closely related to chamber installation and operation.

Each product listing shows the chamber from multiple angles so you can see the ports, pushrod, clamp, label and mounting details, along with OE and OEM numbers to help with cross-referencing.

Truck brands & typical applications

Most brake chambers we stock come from mainstream European heavy trucks such as: DAF CF/XF, MAN TGS/TGX, Volvo FH/FM, Mercedes-Benz Actros/Arocs and Scania tractors and rigids. We focus on genuine OEM and well-known branded units, so dimensions, threads and mounting interfaces match the original axle and brake system design.

Typical applications for used OEM brake chambers include:

  • replacing damaged or leaking chambers that cause air loss or slow brake response;
  • repairing trucks that have failed MOT or roadworthiness tests due to worn or corroded chambers;
  • resolving uneven braking issues caused by a weak or seized actuator on one axle position;
  • supporting accident repairs and axle swaps where original chambers have been damaged.

How brake chambers work in truck air brake systems

In a standard air disc or drum brake system, the brake chamber uses a diaphragm and internal mechanism to turn air pressure into a linear push on the pushrod. This movement operates the caliper or brake linkage at the wheel end. On spring brake units there is also a powerful internal spring which applies the brakes mechanically when air pressure is released, providing a secure parking brake even if system pressure is lost.

Because brake chambers operate under high pressure, vibration and exposure to dirt and salt, using correctly specified OEM units is important for both safety and long-term reliability. Matching the correct type, size and stroke helps ensure ABS, EBS and parking brake functions work exactly as the manufacturer intended.

How to choose the correct brake chamber

To avoid ordering the wrong chamber, always check:

  • OE or OEM part number stamped or labelled on the original chamber body;
  • chamber type & size – for example Type 20, Type 22 or Type 24, and whether it is a service-only chamber or a combined spring brake actuator;
  • stroke length in millimetres, as this affects available brake travel and adjustment;
  • port threads (for example M16 x 1.5 or M22 x 1.5) and their orientation;
  • pushrod length and end style, including clevis arrangement where applicable;
  • axle position & side – front/rear, left/right, drive/mid/tag axle on the truck or trailer;
  • truck brand, model, year and Euro class, as mounting brackets and chamber size often change between generations.

If you are not sure which brake chamber you need, you can contact us with your VIN or registration number and photos of the existing chamber and label. Our team will help you cross-check part numbers and select a suitable replacement from our stock. For additional guidance, see How to Find the Right Part and Compatibility & VIN Policy.

Tested used OEM brake chambers from dismantled trucks

Before we dismantle a donor vehicle, we aim to run and check the braking system wherever possible. During removal, our technicians inspect each brake chamber for obvious physical damage, heavy corrosion, cracked housings and damaged threads. Chambers that do not meet our standards are rejected; only units that appear in good used condition are cleaned, labelled and stored under cover in our warehouse.

Because we focus on genuine OEM brake chambers from complete trucks, you benefit from:

  • correct fitment on the existing brackets and axles;
  • chambers designed specifically for heavy-duty commercial vehicle use;
  • honest descriptions and clear photos of the exact part you will receive.
