How truck brake calipers work

On air disc brake systems the caliper converts pneumatic pressure into mechanical clamping force. When the driver applies the brake pedal, compressed air acts on the brake chamber and mechanism inside the caliper, moving one or more pistons and pressing the pads against the disc. The design has to cope with heavy loads, high temperatures and constant vibration on long-haul trucks and construction vehicles.
